Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps
Pleasing the Crowd Since 1927
The Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps has been entertaining audiences since 1927. Referred to affectionately as “The Govies,” the corps connects with its audiences and fans by embodying the corps motto:
Every summer, the Govenaires perform an original field show at Drum Corps International (DCI) events across the region and country. With a focus on both performance and competition, the Govenaires have earned a reputation as a small but powerful corps that always thrills the crowd.
Reasons to Join
We are committed to providing a world-class marching arts education at an affordable price.
-
Dues are among the lowest you will find in drum corps: only $500 for the season. Your uniform, instruments, transportation to and from performances, and meals lodging on tour days are included.
-
Education is central to our mission. We believe that a strong pedagogy for our members translates to a stronger marching arts presence in Southern Minnesota. Our members take what they learn here and apply it through marching or teaching with other organizations, elevating the caliber of marching arts education in the area.
-
Our staff is made up of professional educator-designers with significant experience in the marching music activity, many of whom have been a part of championship programs within and outside of the Govenaires organization.
-
Prior marching or music experience is not necessary, but a commitment to practice and learn is mandatory. Your drum corps experience starts here, and we will give you the tools you need to reach success.
-
Age is not a factor in membership. You don’t have to be done when you turn 21. We’ve accepted young members hoping to improve their skills to try out for a world-class corps, people who have recently aged out and want to keep marching, and members in their 30’s through their 70’s. We’ve even had members march for the first time in adulthood.
-
Inclusion and safety are values we take very seriously. The vibe of the corps is very open and accepting of people of all ages, genders, orientations, ethnicities, races, and skill levels. We understand that we are all here to learn, and we also learn from each other’s differences. Behavior that is counter to this value is the only thing we won’t accept from you. Any behavior that makes other members feel excluded or unsafe is not tolerated in the Govenaires. The safety of our members comes first.
-
Competition is an area in which we excel. Since 2006, the Govenaires have won 5 world-championship titles at DCA and DCI finals, including the championship title in 2024.
-
Accessibility to the marching arts is a priority. For members, that means keeping dues low, keeping a schedule that allows for life outside drum corps, and fostering a safe and inclusive environment. For fans, that means performing in a variety of places and settings to make our music available to all.
