About the Govenaires Performing Arts Association

Established in 1927 as the St. Peter Legion Corps, The Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps are the longest continuously operating drum and bugle corps in the United States.

In 2017, the Govenaires expanded operations to become the Govenaires Performing Arts Association (GPAA), enabling us to broaden our impact by organizing and supporting multiple ensembles.

We’re currently planning events and collecting stories to celebrate our centennial year in 2027.

Mission

To serve as a gateway to performing arts through education, access, and opportunity.

Vision

Performers and audiences connected through performance arts.

Key Values

Education

At the heart of our mission is a deep commitment to education. The Govenaires welcome members of all ages and skill levels. Our dedicated instructors offer personalized guidance throughout each season, helping members develop their skills in music, marching, movement, and performance. Every member—regardless of experience—receives the support they need to improve and achieve their full potential each season.

Access

Accessibility to the marching arts is a priority. For members, that means keeping dues low, keeping a schedule that allows for life outside drum corps, and fostering a safe and inclusive environment. For fans, that means performing in a variety of places and settings to make our music available to all.

Opportunity

GPAA’s ensembles are rooted in rural St. Peter, MN and provide members opportunities to perform locally, regionally, nationally, and even internationally. The traveling ensembles connect performers and audiences of all ages and backgrounds with the culture and history of the marching arts.

Corps Motto

Dedication to performance. Pride in the Corps. Fun with the people.

Dedication to Performance.

The whole reason we do this is to perform—it’s what we love. If we can entertain the audience, we’ve done our job whether we’re competing or not, and whether we come in first place or last.

Pride in the Corps.

From maintaining a fleet of bold, iconic buses to taking every possible opportunity to represent the St. Peter community through performance, the Govenaires take pride in who we are and where we come from.

Fun with the People.

The Govenaires are renowned for engaging their audience through interactive performances and entertaining shows that tap into humor and nostalgia. We even travel the globe to connect with people abroad.
